Is Evie Magazine Far-Right Propaganda?

 

As a Gen Z-targeted women’s website that bills itself as the “unbiased source of truth,” Evie Magazine seems to be doing something right. At first glance, it looks like any other Gen Z-targeted women’s site you might find online — Met Gala fashion slideshows, definitive rankings of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour costumes, stories about the power of probiotics. But, if you dig a little deeper, Evie Magazine is actually a far-right publication.

The media outlet is run by a husband-and-wife team of model/influencers, Brittany Martinez and Gabriel Hugoboom, and generates revenue through affiliate marketing and sales of its annual print addition. According to its staff profiles on LinkedIn, the website also has a number of contributors who have worked for conservative digital media platform Prager U, including the director of outreach and an editor at large. AllSides’ 2021 review of the site found that it “Leans Right.” Its opinion-style articles encourage traditional values

and historic virtues in culture, relationships, and lifestyle, while criticizing progressive feminism and opposing porn and hookup culture. Its content is also critical of the birth control pill and embraces Eastern medicinal approaches instead.

Rolling Stone’s characterization of the magazine as “far-right propaganda” is completely off base. It is insulting to assume that women cannot think critically for themselves or have an opinion that doesn’t agree with the liberal consensus pushed by Cosmopolitan and Vogue. That’s why it’s important to have outlets like Evie Magazine to give conservative-leaning women the chance to share their viewpoints with a wider audience.
